Nigel Farage issued a stinging attack on a local Brussels mayor in the row over police attempting to shut down a right-wing conference.
On Tuesday, there were farcical scenes at the Claridge venue after police entered the building to serve an order just as the former Brexit party leader Nigel Farage was finishing his speech.
As the former MEP addressed several hundred fellow-travellers of the hard right at a conference, Belgian police swooped into the venue with orders to shut the event down.
The local mayor in the Brussels district hosting the "national conservatism" conference tried to shut it down Tuesday citing a threat to "public security", with anti-fascist protesters vowing to target the event.
