International criticism has mounted over Venezuela's vote count that handed incumbent President Nicolas Maduro a narrow victory on Sunday.
Petro’s comments followed harsh criticism from the international community of Maduro and his ruling party-loyal National Electoral Council, which is yet to release any polling center-level results as it has done in previous elections.
Venezuela's National Electoral Council (CNE), which is loyal to Maduro's party, declared Maduro the winner after reportedly securing 51 percent of the vote to González's 44 percent.
Demonstrators in Venezuela have clashed with police as thousands descended onto the streets to protest the result of the South American country's election.
