Israeli officials sound increasingly concerned that the International Criminal Court could issue arrest warrants for the country’s leaders more than six months into the Israel-Hamas war
The government's unease comes after recent reports that the court may issue warrants for the arrests of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Herzi Halevi, chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), before the end of the week.
The ICC — which can charge individuals with war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide — is investigating Hamas’ October 7 cross-border attack and Israel’s devastating military assault on Hamas-ruled Gaza, now in its seventh month.
Without a police force, the ICC relies on member states to arrest suspects.
