Starmer to join Macron-led European crisis summit on Trump’s Ukraine plan

The European commissioners’ visit will follow Monday’s emergency summit of European leaders in Paris who are scrambling to make long-term plans for the bloc’s security amid the start of a second Trump administration.

Starmer’s op-ed was published amid rising tensions between the US and Europe over what appears to be US President Donald Trump’s attempt to sideline his European allies ahead of eventual Ukrainian peace negotiations, and on the same days as a hastily convened emergency meeting with other European leaders was due to take place in Paris to discuss the issue.

A meeting is expected as soon as Tuesday between the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, and the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio.
