Lawmakers grill Columbia University President Minouche Shafik during antisemitism hearing
As Columbia University President Nemat (Minouche) Shafik on Wednesday testified before Congress on antisemitism, the Ivy League college in New York City warned students of suspension over their "Gaza Solidarity Encampment" sit-in on the South Lawn of the campus in Upper Manhattan's Morningside Heights neighborhood.
Columbia President Nemat Shafik, along with two members of the Board of Trustees and a professor, will be questioned by the House Education and the Workforce Committee after missing the December hearing that became the downfall of other university heads.
The hearing was a sequel of sorts to a similar panel held in December, featuring the presidents of Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
