At least five U.N. peacekeepers have been wounded as Israeli forces battle Hezbollah.
India emphasised the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of its peacekeepers and aligned itself with a joint statement from 34 troop-contributing countries.
On Thursday, two peacekeepers from the 10,000-strong United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured when an Israeli tank shell struck an observation tower near the “Blue Line” separating Lebanon from Israel and the Golan Heights.
UNIFIL is a peacekeeping mission established by the UN Security Council (UNSC) in March 1978, days after Israel invaded Lebanon.
