Hurricane Milton leaves at least 16 dead, millions without power in Florida
At least 10 people were dead, and rescuers were still saving people from swollen rivers, but many expressed relief that Milton wasn't worse.
The county on Thursday issued a voluntary evacuation order for any residents in "low-lying areas or areas prone to flooding" as the Sunshine State recovers from Milton's impact, which hit the state less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene ripped through the Southeast.
Millions of people were urged to evacuate ahead of Milton, which slammed into western Florida on Wednesday as a category 3 hurricane, causing more than a dozen deaths, ruined homes, flooding and triggering a rash of destructive tornadoes.
