Mundakkai is in the foothills of a nearby mountain. The issue is that the area was totally cut off due to the destruction of a bridge. Now efforts are on to make a temporary bridge to facilitate the crossing of the rescue team,
One team of NDRF is clearing the way as they progress towards Mundakkai. Three more teams will arrive by afternoon. Two choppers of the Army will also reach soon,
Nearly 70 people have been admitted to various hospitals in Kozhikode; at least 12 bodies are there in the hospitals,
Congress leaders and workers should put in all their efforts to provide every possible assistance to the people. Coordinate with doctors, and paramedics and kindly follow up with the agencies to support the victims of the tragedy,
Government Ready To Provide All Possible Help,
Based on a requisition received from Kerala Government this morning for rescue of approximately 250 persons likely to be stranded in a major land slide in Meppadi Panchayath, Vyithiri Taluk, Wayanad, District in Kerala, two rescue columns of Indian Army with a strength of approximately 200 soldiers from Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre, Kannur along with medical team from Military Hospital Kannur and troops from Territorial Army from Kozhikode has been deployed,
Wayanad is a paradise on earth. To see it devasted by landslides with many lives lost is a tragedy. Our hearts are with the people of Wayanad and we will do whatever we can in the relief effort,
But this is a very serious and big landslide. A lot of houses have been damaged. A portion of the Chooralmala school, which was operating as a relief camp has also been washed away,
Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured. Rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected."
We are trying every possible thing to rescue our people. We have received 24 bodies in different hospitals. Around 70 people are also injured. We have ensured proper treatment of the injured. Teams of NDRF and Civil Defence are present; a team of Navy will also be reaching soon. A bridge in the area has also washed away."
Spoke to Kerala CM Shri @pinarayivijayan and also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there,
The situation is serious. The government has pressed all agencies into rescue,
Many people who were working in the estates and staying in makeshift tents inside are feared trapped or missing,
Hundreds of people are suspected to have been trapped,
Since the incident government systems have been working in a unified manner. Ministers will reach Wayanad and lead the activities,
In response, the Army has mobilized four columns, including two columns from the 122 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and two from the DSC Centre, Kannur. The total strength of Army personnel deployed so far for the rescue operation is approximately 225, including medical personnel,
I have spoken to the Kerala Chief Minister and the Wayanad District Collector, who assured me that rescue operations are underway. I have requested them to ensure coordination with all agencies, set up a control room, and inform us of any assistance needed for the relief efforts…I will speak to Union Ministers and request them to provide all assistance possible to Wayanad,
We are all at the affected area here in Chooralmala right now, but we are unable to advance towards Mundakkai area due to several reasons. One, the rain is still heavy and it’s hampering the relief efforts. Then there is dense fog in the area, which has affected visibility. Third and most important, an important bridge connecting Chooralmala with Mundakkai has been completely washed away in the landslide.”
The Iruvazhinji river is overflowing and it’s quite dangerous to cross it. Without the bridge, it will be difficult to get to the affected areas in Mundakkai. The state government has to make alternate arrangements,
I will speak to Union Ministers and request them to provide all assistance possible to Wayanad,
