My sense is that we’re going to see more stronger storms this year,
Will all the storms be intense? Possibly not,
With these rapid intensification storms, it cuts your time frame down,
All signs are hinting that this season is going to rival 2005,
Interests elsewhere in the northwestern Caribbean, including the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, should closely monitor the progress of Beryl. Additional watches or warnings will be required later [Tuesday].”
Drone video captured by storm chaser @bclemms shows scenes of devastation on the island of Carriacou after Hurricane Beryl slammed into the coast as a Category 4 storm,
Beryl is still expected to be near major hurricane intensity as it moves into the central Caribbean and passes near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Thursday,
There's still the islandwide blackout,
Union Island has been devastated,
The possibility that there may be more fatalities remains a grim reality as movement is still highly restricted.
We really can't rule out the storm trying to glide northwards over the Gulf of Mexico, it really depends on where it hits the Yucatan peninsula,
It's the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Central American basin,
We need to bear in mind that it only takes one land-falling hurricane to set back decades of development,
I am encouraging all Jamaicans to take the hurricane as a serious threat,
There is a low chance that Beryl would have direct impacts on the United States,
It is very important to note that if the high pressure across the Southeast weakens, that can allow the storm to move farther north and potentially directly impact the Gulf Coast,
If I'm watching from Texas or even Louisiana, the threat level still appears *low*; but model guidance(Euro&GFS Ensembles) showcases why we can't discount a scenario where this system brings impacts the NW Gulf Coast,
The situation requires our immediate attention, and all efforts must be made to support our sister islands,
I felt the wind whistling, and then for about two hours straight, it was really, really terrifying at times,
Whether in my homeland of Carriacou....hammered by Hurricane Beryl, or in the heatwaves and floods crippling communities in some of the world's largest economies, it's clear that the climate crisis is pushing disasters to record-breaking new levels of destruction,
