Thousands of residents of Vietnam’s capital living close to the swollen Red River have been evacuated as its waters flooded streets days after Typhoon Yagi battered northern Vietnam, with the death toll rising to at least 143 people.
Days after the storm made landfall, northern Vietnam was being battered by incessant rain.
Yagi also caused a landslide that engulfed the remote mountain village of Lang Nu in Lao Cai province, state media reported on Wednesday.
The typhoon, the strongest in Asia this year, made landfall in Vietnam's northern coast on Saturday and was still causing deadly floods and landslides on Wednesday, killing dozens and ravaging key infrastructure, including power networks and roads.
