Trump says Jack Smith is a 'disgrace' after special counsel resigned from DOJ: 'He left town empty handed!'

Jack Smith's prosecution of Donald Trump effectively ended with the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity last year,

he said

Positions within the Department of Justice have always been inherently political, as evidenced by the mass resignations of U.S. Attorneys every time there is an election of a president of the opposite party. Until there is a change by way of statute, a president can force this kind of resignation upon taking office,

he said

It is time for Joe Biden and Merrick Garland to do the right thing and put a final stop to the political weaponization of our Justice system."

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung called Smith's report an "unconstitutional, one-sided, falsehood-ridden screed, ... adding:

It would be a travesty if a report from this investigation, alone among the special counsel proceedings commenced during the Trump and Biden Administrations, remained secret. One of the important purposes of the criminal justice system is to get at the truth of matters. Here, much remains unknown."

The Special Counsel completed his work and submitted his final confidential report on January 7, 2025, and separated from the Department on January 10,

a footnote in the filing said
