Jill and I are grateful to Director Kim Cheatle for her decades of public service,
The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!”
I appreciate his willingness to lead the Secret Service at this incredibly challenging moment, as the agency works to get to the bottom of exactly what happened on July 13 and cooperate with ongoing investigations and Congressional oversight,
The independent review to get to the bottom of what happened on July 13 continues, and I look forward to assessing its conclusions. We all know what happened that day can never happen again. As we move forward, I wish Kim all the best, and I will plan to appoint a new Director soon,
During his 24-year career with the U.S. Secret Service, Mr. Rowe has also coordinated major security operations, collaborating with other government and law-enforcement agencies. Mr. Rowe managed a National Special Security Event (NSSE) and oversaw the operations of more than 7,000 personnel across federal, state and local jurisdictions (2016),
On the cybersecurity front, Mr. Rowe was selected for a joint duty assignment to the National Intelligence Council (2013), where he spearheaded the development of multiple analytic products. Those products were later considered to be among the most authoritative assessment by the U.S. Intelligence Community regarding the challenges and national security threats facing the United States."
I look forward to assessing its conclusions,
While Director Cheatle’s resignation is a step toward accountability, we need a full review of how these security failures happened so that we can prevent them going forward. We will continue our oversight of the Secret Service in support of the House Task Force to deliver transparency, accountability, and solutions to ensure this never happens again."
I'm glad she did the right thing. Look, our reaction, the immediate reaction to her resignation, is that it is overdue. She should have done this at least a week ago,
I’m happy to see that, I'm happy to see that she has heeded the call of both Republicans and Democrats. Now we have to pick up the pieces. We have to rebuild the American people's faith and trust in the secret services,
Chairman Comer and I issued a bipartisan call for USSS Director Cheatle to resign so the Secret Service can swiftly guarantee protection to its details. She has resigned. I wish Chairman Comer would join me in legislation to ban AR-15s and other assault weapons to keep all Americans—not just presidents but schoolchildren and firefighters—safe from more mass shootings."
It's not personal, but there must be accountability."
At yesterday's Oversight Committee hearing, Director Cheatle instilled no confidence that she has the ability to ensure the Secret Service can meet its protective mission,
The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on July 13th is the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades,
The buck stops with me. I am the director of the Secret Service."
The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders and financial infrastructure. On July 13th, we fell short on that mission. The scrutiny over the last week has been intense and will continue to remain as our operational tempo increases. As your director, I take full responsibility for the security lapse.”
I take full responsibility for the security lapse. In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director,
Facing the threat of impeachment, Secret Service Director Cheatle decided to resign. She failed President Trump, Corey Comperatore, and the American people on 7/13. Her resignation is just the first step. Republicans must continue pushing for a complete investigation into the security failures that led to this grave attack on our democracy,
The failure to answer basic questions over the last ten days and at yesterday's Congressional hearing was a disgrace. House Republicans will not rest until we have 100% transparency and accountability,
At any point Saturday did the Secret Service have an agent on top of that roof?"
