US abstains on WTO statement against Russia's aggression in Ukraine for first time, Reuters reports

The two votes highlighted a seismic shift in the balance of power at the UN, where Washington had steadfastly voted for resolutions that favored Ukraine and condemned Russia, until the abrupt rupture with Kyiv.

More than 40 WTO members agreed to the statement, which was shared at the Ukraine trade review session at the WTO.

The Ukrainian leader plans to travel to D. C. on Friday to meet with President Donald Trump after the officials agreed to the terms of the deal, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

It was more favourable to Ukraine than the original deal proposed by Washington, but did not include references to long-term security guarantees that Kyiv wanted to receive in the deal.
