Now, I, of course, take comfort in the fact that Donald Trump wants the United States to remain and retain the position of a superpower and for that, you need allies, and I think those allies come from Europe,
Our Polish relations with the U.S. are very, very good and, as you said, we are buying lots of U.S. military equipment, tanks, fighter jets. Actually, you name it, we buy it,
In foreign policy, you always have to react to a certain situation, especially when you come from a small state, and you realize that you work with whoever is the president of the biggest superpower in the world,
But don't be naïve, there is probably a new shape of the world and of trade systems for tomorrow, so we have to be ready to change, but first of all we have to be united,
We know how to do it, and we will do it step by step,
Europe is a very powerful continent in terms of industry, in terms of savings, in terms of purchase power, in terms of the single market. So, what we need now is to create more unity and to defend our values as well,
We have to stick together, this is very important,
But, as a European Union, of course we must and we will remain united in our relations with the U.S.,
So, if I may simplify a little bit, though it is 'America First,' perhaps it should be Europe second, which is quite fine,
President Trump's Inauguration Day policy announcements on tariffs were more benign than expected,
Pursuing protectionism is just like locking one's self in a dark room. Wind and rain might be kept outside but so are light and air."
This isn’t a long process to set the stage,
It has nothing to do with that,
I think you could call it the blueprint and the foundation for the tariffs and trade policies that may or may not emerge over the next 100 days,
I'll quote my predecessor Richard [Galanti]. He'd say when it rains, it rains on everybody. And I think for us, we faced tariffs in the past, and we believe that our merchants and buyers are equipped, as anybody is, to sort of work through and navigate and manage that situation."
We view Trump's decision against announcing new tariffs on his first day in office as evidence of the ongoing internal debate over how best to implement the duties, not as a sign of plans to significantly scale back or withdraw his campaign pledges to impose new duties on foreign goods,
Regarding the decrees that President Donald Trump signed yesterday, I would like to say the following: The people of Mexico can be sure that we will always defend our sovereignty and our independence,
We will go to the extent of cutting off their energy — going down to Michigan, going down to New York State and over to Wisconsin.”
One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,
Our country is absolutely ready to respond to any one of these scenarios,
