Every day, it pushes back the Ukrainian front line somewhere by a kilometer or so. My judgment is that it could continue to do that over the rest of this year,
The decisions that we make right now over the coming weeks will not only define the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine, but the security of our world for a generation to come,
Where that money's going to come from is a key question,
We must remember this is a terrible war. My judgment is that over a million people have been killed or seriously wounded. Now the balance of casualties is probably in Ukraine's favor. A figure of 700,000 or 800,000 Russian casualties seems credible to me. President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy says Ukraine has only suffered 48,000 killed. That seems implausibly low to me,
There will be some very significant alarm in European capitals about what might be discussed with regards to the security of their continent, their whole region,
One sort of potentially really bad outcome for European capitals is to discover that the Americans have basically put them on the hook for attempting to do some sort of peacekeeping mission in Ukraine or whatever without their say-so,
Well, you’ve been there for three years…You should never have started it.”
It's a very, very negative trend, but I have no influence over it,
It's painful to look at this, and painful to realise the front is now nearby,
229 total encounters at the Southwest border — 229 — compare that to 11,000 per day under [President] Biden,
We understand the need for security guarantees... Part of my mission is to sit and listen and say: what are your concerns?"
Unfortunately, President Trump, who we have great respect for as leader of the American people ... lives in this disinformation space,
A very, very important step has been taken towards creating the conditions for a peaceful resolution,
He is the first, and so far, in my opinion, the only Western leader who has publicly and loudly said that one of the root causes of the Ukrainian situation was the previous administration's pushy line of dragging Ukraine into NATO,
I'm very disappointed, I hear that they're upset about not having a seat,
At least 160,000 Odesa residents are now without heat and electricity,
This is highly inappropriate, to put it bluntly, and – honestly – we don’t even know what the outcome will be.”
And so there’s a huge danger of this here, that this is the prelude to a wider war in later years. And Trump and his team are not really showing the awareness of that. So that’s the biggest worry in this whole thing.”
The practical reality is that there’s going to be some discussion of territory and there’s going to be discussion of security guarantees, those are just fundamental basics,
We see it all through history, that the way in which you settle one war can, if you’re not careful, lead to a bigger war later, because it leaves both sides with an incentive to go back to fighting."
