Oscar was located 45 miles (75 kilometres) south-southeast of Long Island in the Bahamas on Tuesday morning.
Hurricane Oscar made landfall on Sunday evening in Cuba as the country continues to grapple with a power outage.
However, Oscar's unexpected intensity caught many off guard, making landfall on Grand Inagua Island in the Bahamas on Saturday, and again in eastern Cuba late on Sunday.
Hurricane Oscar has dumped heavy rain across the eastern end of Cuba, adding to a list of woes already besetting the Caribbean’s biggest island, which was hit over the weekend by a huge power cut.
